Common questions

My sign-in email hasn't arrived

It usually arrives within a minute, from [email protected]. Check your junk or spam folder, and check the address you typed.

The link and code last 15 minutes. If it has expired, ask for a new one from the app. Throwaway email services can't be used to sign in.

How do I join a group?

Open the invite link someone sent you. If Shout is installed it opens the app; otherwise you can view and edit the expenses in your browser. You can also tap Join group in the app and scan the group's QR code or paste its code.

If an invite won't open, ask for a fresh one sent straight from Shout. Some apps cut off the end of a link when forwarding it.

Do I need an account?

Not to join a group or keep your own expenses. You need to sign in with your email to share a group, and signing in lets a new phone get your groups back.

How do I leave a group?

Open the group, go to its settings and choose Leave group. The group's admin, the person who shared it, can't leave; once everyone is settled up, the admin can delete the group instead.

I got a new phone. How do I get my groups back?

Install Shout and sign in with the same email address you used before. Your groups come back once you've signed in.

How do I delete my data?

Open Settings, tap Account and recovery, then Delete my account data. This removes your email, name, picture and list of groups from our server. See the Privacy Policy for what stays with a shared group.

How do I report a group?

Open the group, go to its settings and choose Report this group. It starts an email to us with what we need to find the group. Tell us what's wrong and we'll look into it.

Can I use Shout on a computer?

Yes. Open shout.smilingeyes.app/Dashboard and paste the group's code, or open an invite link on your computer.
